President's Letter 4th Quarter 2010

Here in Northern Arizona we are still in
winter’s grip. I’m very grateful for lights and electricity
in the barn and heaters in the water troughs. The bucks
are beginning to calm down and eat now that the majority of
the does are bred, except for the few annoying dry yearlings
that I chose to hold over in order to decrease our workload.
About every 3 weeks they send the bucks in to an uproar for
a few days and it causes me to rethink my decision but I
really don’t want June/July kids!
With many of you already kidding, and our first kids
expected around the middle of March it’s time to get our
kidding and milking supplies in order. Also, be sure to
check the nitrogen level on your semen tanks as they are
easily forgotten during the busy time of kid- ding season.
Show season is coming fast. Many clubs are really struggling
in order to host shows this year so be sure to offer help in
any way that you can. Sponsor a class, donate to the show
raffle, donate awards, bring extra animals in order to help
sanction if needed, provide trans- portation for the judges,
volunteer to ring-steward. We all have to help if we want to
keep these shows going.
I want to remind everyone to help in some way to support the
youth in your area. Volunteer to lead or assist a 4-H or FFA
club. Provide healthy animals and guidance to new dairy goat
owners. The youth of today will be our INBA of the future.
Thanks so much to Ziggy Ginest for Volunteering to chair our
All- American Program. Our club is based solely upon it’s
volunteers.
If you haven’t already, be sure to send in your INBA
membership renewal immediately. It is also time to take
advantage of a special advertising offer, for just $10 you
and your herd can be a part of INBA's annual full-page co-op
ad in the April, NUBIAN EDITION of United Caprine News. Your
ad can include your herd name and up to six additional lines
of contact information (such as your name, ad- dress, phone
number, email, website url, and/or a short tag line).Payment
can be made either by check (made out to INBA and mailed to
the Caroline Lawson) or through the PayPal link now up on
the INBA website at: www.i-n-b-a.org. Deadline is March 2nd!
Please contact your INBA Board with questions or comments.
We need your input in order to serve you better. Wishing you
the happiest of New Years!
In peace and thanks,
Marshall Losey

President's Letter 3rd Quarter 2010

Dear Fellow INBA Members,
For most of us the 2010 kid crop is now weaned, show season
is winding down and the bucks and does are beginning to show
some interest in one
another.
We are now charged with making the important decisions on
which bucks to breed to our does in order to improve upon
our desired strengths and traits. I am always amazed with
how many times my breeding “plans” will change from day to
day until the deed is done! I’m sure that I have killed off
a small forest somewhere, due to the numerous pages and
scratch paper notes that contain my “formulas” for next
years “winners”. The reality is that the best laid breeding
plans are ultimately tossed into the genetic game of chance.
We can do our best to stack the odds in our favor but as
with most things caprine, the goats are in control.
I want to take a moment to thank the 2010 KY National Show
Committee and Host Group. You did an outstanding job! The
show ran smoothly and efficiently, the wine and cheese sam-
pling and colorama sale were excellent! I also want to con-
gratulate Delaney Schmer for being selected as the 2010 ADGA
National Premier Youth Exhibitor.
The 2010 INBA Annual Meeting is fast approaching. Please
consider attending if at all possible. The meeting will
begin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19th in the Barcelona
Room at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Tucson, AZ. We are
seeking donations for the INBA Raffle table. Take a look
around and see what you might have to donate.
Please note that there is an election ballot included in
this news- letter. Please select up to four names for INBA
Director. Ballots must be postmarked by October 1, 2010 in
order to be counted.
*** We still need a volunteer chairperson for the INBA All-
American Program. Please contact me if interested. ***
(note: this position has been filled)
In peace and thanks,
Marshall Losey

INTERNATIONAL NUBIAN BREEDERS
ASSOCIATION
2010 Annual Meeting Minutes
The 2010 Annual Meeting of the International Nubian Breeders
Association was held on October 19, 2010 at the Holiday Inn
& Suites in Tucson, Arizona. The meeting was called to order
at 5:15 p.m. Board members present were Marshall Losey,
President; Caroline Lawson, Secretary-Treasurer; Katherine
Goodin and Leslie Diaz.
Motion by Kathy Goodin, with a second by Leslie Diaz to
waive reading of the 2010 Annual Meeting minutes. Motion
carried. Treasurer’s report presented by Caroline Lawson.
INBA checking and PayPal accounts total $9,871.41. A summary
of income and expenses will be printed in the INBA
newsletter. Motion by Kathy Goodin, second by Ziggy Ginest
to accept Treasurer’s report. Motion carried.
Specialty Committee – Only five specialty shows were held in
2010 - one each in Districts 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. At this time,
we have received results and pictures back from two of the
five shows.
Newsletter – Kathy Goodin will continue as Newsletter Editor
and Leslie Diaz will have newsletters printed and mailed.
Merits & Awards – For the 2009 Merits & Awards program, 103
certificates were given to 11 owner-participants.
Fundraising Committee – Kathy Goodin reported that raffle
donations have been received from Jeffers, Valley Vet,
Hoegger’s and a number of individuals. Once again, the
Lister Clippers donated by INBA have been the most popular
item as well as a paper mache Nubian head donated by Debbie
Emholtz. Thank you to everyone who so generously donated
items to our raffle!
All American Committee – Marshall Losey reported that Jane
Robinett had stepped down as Chair of this committee and
asked members if anyone might be interested in volunteering
to take her place. Ziggy Ginest said she would do so. Ziggy
will work with Jane to make sure everything is in place
before the All American submission deadline of December 1,
2010.
Election Results – Caroline presented results of this year’s
election of Board Members: Mary Clarke, Leslie Diaz, Kathy
Goodin and Karen Senn will be returning to the Board.
Marshall asked for new business. Members recognized Delaney
Schmer as the winner of the 2010 Premier Youth Nubian
Breeder award sponsored by INBA at the ADGA National Show.
Members also recognized Brent Deitrich for producing the new
INBA website.
Alice Hall offered to provide a copy of her book, “Nubian
History” to an INBA member who might be interested in
updating it. Kathy Goodin said she would work with Mrs. Hall
on this project. Caroline Lawson suggested Steve Considine
would also be an excellent source of historical information.
There being no further business, motion by Leslie Diaz,
second by Laura Evans to adjourn. Motion carried. Meeting
was adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Caroline Lawson |

New Website Overview & A Look Back
Written By Brent Deitrich
Tuesday, 30 March 2010 19:13 |
Welcome to INBA's new website
look! When I volunteered to donate a website framework
redesign last year from my design company, Live View
Studios, I was anticipating it would be completed in a
month, but hosting technologies threw a few glitches into
the works. However, here we are at last and I hope you enjoy
the new look as well as some of the features that I've
outlined below that will make the website a much more
interactive and user friendly experience, as well as giving
our volunteers the ability to update things much quicker.
One of the things you'll notice right away is the more
interactive home page, with clearer navigation and more
concise 'talking points' - the things that people look for
right away when they come to the home page, highlighted in a
graphical way.

Under Nubians, this menu has been redesigned to be more
navigable, including the National Champion areas. We'll
feature the
last National Show in a more prominent way, with the past
Nationals neatly archived and also searchable (the whole
site is searchable through the search box on every page in
the left column.
Under the Nubian menu, you'll find just about everything
breed related, including the history, breed standard, and
one of the features that I am the most excited about when
compared to the previous site functionality - the Find A
Breeder page. On the last site, this was a static HTML page
that had been used for several years. It did the job, but
didn't show you breeders that were nearby you at a quick
glance.
The
new Find A Breeder is an entire component that allows you to
search by radius miles around your location for a breeder
that is close to you. If you're not already listed here, and
you're an INBA member, we offer a free listing to all our
members. You can submit your information using the simple
form on the left hand side, and we'll add you as soon as
possible.
To use the breeder locator, just enter your street address,
town name, or zip code into the search field at the top, set
the miles in radius that you want to search by, and you'll
be provided with a list of breeders that are close to you.
You can always toggle all the breeders that are listed by
clicking 'more results' in the bottom left. Snazzy!
The Programs menu has been redesigned to be a bit more
archiveable and easily updated. All the old information from
the previous site is still here, and can be viewed easily.
The bottom of every page shows you the Latest News, all
recent updates to each program, and our rotating member
business card advertising in one streamlined container.

The News link at the top of the site will
become a constant feed of the newest club related
information from officers, chairs, etc - presented in a
blog-style format.
We also have the ability to offer a lot more interactivity
on this site, which we'll develop even further in the future
- like a Members Area, Polls, and much more. I'm sure as
time goes along we'll figure out many more things that can
be utilized. The good news is we have a solid framework to
build it all on for the future, whereas our previous site
was just HTML files with no framework or structure
underneath it.
As I close this out, I wanted to take a look back at the
past INBA websites, from the first design that was put out
online to the current site .. we've come a long way!
This was our first site, circa 2003:

These two designs served us between 2003 to
the current time:

And our current design:

If you have any questions about interacting
with the new design, feel free to contact us. |

Dear INBA Members,
Here we are again with another kidding season underway. Such
a busy but truly rewarding time for all of us. Nothing cuter
than long-earred baby
Nubian kids to make treading out into the cold, not such a
chore.
We have an exciting year ahead of us. The INBA Board of
Directors and Committees are hard at work on their
respective areas, but we can always use more member input
and participation. In the last newsletter there was an INBA
committee appointment application and I want to thank
everyone who sent theirs to me. Our INBA is solely run by
volunteers and so participation is key to our continued
success.
I really want to encourage the clubs and show secretaries
that are holding an INBA Specialty Show this year, to please
submit your QUALITY PHOTOS and results in order to receive
your application refund and in order to give the class
winners the recognition that they deserve. I also ask that
the participants assist in any way that you can in order to
be sure that your photos are taken and that results are
submitted to the INBA so that your winning animals can be
enjoyed by all of us.
I have very much enjoyed the discussions and member
participation on the INBA Membership email list. Lot's of
sharing of ideas and thought provoking topics. I hope to see
this continue.
For those of you who have not paid your membership dues,
please get them sent in ASAP as we don't want to lose any of
you. You can renew your membership by pay-pal on our current
website or fill out and submit the application found in this
newsletter. It's fast and easy to join or renew. Our INBA
membership dues continue to be among the lowest of all of
the breed clubs.
Best wishes for a healthy and productive kidding season in
2010.
In peace,
Marshall Losey
